Things to consider before a major color transformation/correction.

It is time.. your mind has been made up, you are finally ready to change your hair color.. Exciting, I know!

Before you go just booking anybody for this service, do yourself a favor and do some necessary research on this luxury service.

The Inspiration

Let us start with the look you are going for.  Is it a lived in look? (AKA, something that is more of a rooted look). Single color or multi-dimensional?  Natural or more on the fashion color side (pinks, purples, firetruck reds).  Is this a subtle change, or drastic transformation?  Are we doing this on natural hair, or already colored hair?

When finding your inspiration photos, make it easy on your stylist and find something similar to your hair texture, length, and density.

Investment

Based off of the desired look, you may need one long color session or you may need multiple.

Pricing varies from artist to artist.  A newer stylist may be cheaper, but may take more time.  Versus someone who is a specialist, will most likely charge a higher rate based off of their speed, knowledge, and confidence in the service.

Salon Maintenance

Do you want to come in every 2-3 months to keep up with your color, or would you rather come in 2-3 times a year?  Is this going to be a color you maintain for a while, or do you plan to change it up often?

Examples of high maintenance colors:

  • Double Process Blonde

  • High Density Highlight

  • Fashion Colors

  • Color Correction Multi-Step Visit

  • Demi Color (No ammonia color, healthier for the hair, but fades faster)

Examples of lived styles:

  • Balayage

  • Foilayage

  • Shadow Rooted Looks

For a high maintenance color, you will most likely be into the salon from as soon as 6 weeks to 8 weeks.  For a lived in style, more like 14 plus weeks, besides the occasional toner at about every 12 weeks.

The Color Itself

Be realistic.  If you are wanting something low maintenance, stick to a subtle, more neutral color.  If you don’t mind coming in every 4 weeks, go crazy!

Keep in mind, if this transformation takes a few visits, you will live with tones you did not originally desire.  You must be flexible with understanding that everything that is being done is while keeping in mind the integrity of your hair first.  You may even end up liking a tone before reaching your desired result and you are totally able to live with whichever tone you want.

Home Care Maintenance and Products

If you get the color of your dreams, it does not end in the salon, there are a few things you need to keep up with in order to guarantee your hair is always looking vibrant and healthy.

If you do not have a quality color protective shampoo and conditioner, it would be wise to invest as soon as you color your hair. Depending on how much tension was put on the hair, your stylist may encourage styling protective products and even want you to do an at home conditioning treatment in between your salon visits.

Now that your mind has been brewing, it is time to secure your appointment! Inquire now.
